ATTENTION TDS INTERNET CUSTOMERS IN FANNIN COUNTY, GEORGIA:
The Law Firm of Beckum Kittle LLP has announced that it is investigating potential claims against TDS Telecommunications Corporation a/k/a TDS. TDS Telecom is a Madison, Wisconsin-based company that provides 1.2 million connections to high-speed internet, phone, and TV entertainment services in nearly 900 rural, suburban, and metropolitan communities.
The Firm’s investigation centers on claims by customers that TDS has failed to deliver the service (specifically internet speed and quality) for which those individuals have paid. A Public Information Meeting will be held on Monday, May 8th 2017 at the Fannin County Senior Center located at 440 W 1st St., Blue Ridge, GA 30513 at 6:00 p.m. EST.

OUR PETITION
This is a petition by the population of Morganton, GA and any/or all TDS Telecom customers at large demanding better and faster internet access in the Morganton, GA service area. Internet speeds are consistently less than 1MB for a majority of the citizens who pay for Internet service. This is less than acceptable and considerably slower than surrounding service areas. We implore TDS Telecom to facilitate a meeting with community leaders to discuss the following issues:
- Upgrading the current cable lines and infrastructure to facilitate Internet speeds more consistent with surrounding areas. We need to be assured that our rural internet is working in the best possible way
- Customers receiving a fair value for the hard earned dollars that we spend on Internet service
- Our ability to stay connected with family and friends utilizing current technology that we are unable to utilize due to poor service
- Economic impact to realtors, homeowners, businesses, and investors
This petition will be delivered to TDS Telecom as well as the Ellijay Telephone company. Should we not receive a satisfactory response from TDS Telecom, we invite the Ellijay Telephone Company to expand their service area to include Morganton, GA.

I Live in mineral bluff and am the proud, local, owner of The Ridge Boutique, located at 695 East Main Street in Downtown Blue Ridge. I Live just over a mile off the main 515 highway and I work over 70+ hours a week online from home. During my time of service with TDS my work load was nearly doubled from delays. I originally had the 5 megs service and later switched to 20 megs. On either service speed I could rarely obtain over the 1 meg speed. In the last year I had to change to ETC internet Service; which many in our county, like Kristy Petrillo, can’t even get because of their location. It even costs me more for the very little difference I receive. It’s time our internet providers step up and make the investment needed to provide better Speeds and Quality to their customers; and further reaching service for other customers so that we can have a more competitive market!

I have TDS in Morganton & Mineral Bluff. In order to maintain a VPN connection, I have to use my iPhone hotspot instead of wifi. The TDS internet speeds are atrocious. It’s completely unacceptable and they are crooks for taking our money without providing adequate service.

Everyone signing this petition needs to understand something – online petitions only work to identify an unknown situation. TDS knows of the oversubscriptions. They order it. They don’t care. They are openly stealing from people. I urge everyone to file a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. That is the only way anything is going to be done. Government regulation is the only thing that is going to get their attention. I know this, because I was involved in the class-action lawsuit against Windstream Communications for doing the exact same thing a few years ago. They were successfully sued for over 200 million. This is the only way you can communicate with these type of people. Please, go to the FTC website, file a complaint. We have a major problem here, and it isn’t going to be solved by signing petitions. Get active.

Service goes in and out when it rains. Have complained multiple times but nothing gets done. There’s nothing else you can do but deal with it when nobody else services that area.

Mineral Bluff, Natures Courtyard subdivision. We have submitted multiple complaints over the last 2 years regarding this matter to TDS. We are in the A/V, systems, communications,networking business. The customer service and technicians only lie and give lame excuses. They need to refund their customers for the fees they are paying for “high speed” internet, which they clearly are not getting. When we tested, our speeds were always low. Many times 1. It always froze and dropped off as well. It was impossible to stream anything. I am administrator for my business and have home office. This is is not acceptable. We were forced to purchase a Verizon LTE internet and home phone, a wireless device that delivers internet connectivity. We have been here since 2006, and it was not this way until about the last two years. Thank you for publishing this issue.

Folks this is a county wide issue not just in Morganton, I am a security service provider and have many customers throughout the TDS footprint that would like to have security cameras at their home and be able to view them elsewhere but because the upload speed is at a max. of .4 Mbs it is not enough to stream video back out. If you have supposedly 5 Mbs download and it buffers constantly imagine how well streaming it back out works at .4
I complained to the home office and the presidents ofc. recently on behalf of my customers and was politely told TDS has no plan of doing any upgrades in our area in the near future.
Now just across the county on this end of Lake Notley the customers of Blue Ridge EMC are getting 50 Mbs download and 49 Mbs upload way out on this end of the lake coming from Young Harris.
With TDS being located in Blue Ridge sitting right on top of the largest fiber backbone on the east coast there is no reason they cannot provide us with the best service on the east coast except for one small issue and that is their profit margin.
Believe me the Epworth, Hells Hollow, Devils Den, Cashes Valley, areas are suffering the same.
I live on Big Creek off of Aska in Blue Ridge and we have TDS for over two years and we are paying for 15 Mbps and are getting slow speeds all the time. We were having to reset our router two to thee times per week until I went out and bought our own modem and router. The sad thing is on Big Creek road there is a fiber optic line that could be used to hook up high-speed internet.

Our internet speed in Morganton is terrible. We upgraded to 15 mpbs. and only get 2 or less. We have called and had service people out many times. We have to use our phone data most of the time to get online. My daughter was taking an online real estate course and kept losing service. A representative from TDS finally told me we were not in a populated area and, frankly, TDS did not care about our poor service.

We live at 260 Jack Rock Road in Mineral Bluff. Jack Rock is located off Douthit Road a fairly well populated area. We were told at first that we needed a turbo, whatever that is , since the TDS signal wasn’t atrong enough on it’s on. I don’t know if we got a turbo but do know the internet speed is very slow and will not support streaming on TV such as Netflix, Hulu, etc.

TDS is awful. ETC is way too expensive. In Atlanta, you can get Comcast cable, Google Fiber, ATT UVerse with up to 1Gb speeds for $75/month. Meanwhile we suffer with substandard speeds that are equivalent to 3rd world countries, or pay ETC for 30Mb speeds at very high costs. I tried TDS for a few months, then cancelled them quickly because of much slower speeds than advertised and poor customer service. I had to go with ETC since no other choice. I work from home and need high speed internet. We need competition with competent internet providers who actually care about the community rather than ripping us off, and are willing to upgrade technology to keep up to date.

I live on Squirrel Hunting Road, Hemptown Creek community area. Why do I have high speed when others do not. I do not watch TV. I video stream all movies and television shows. I feel bad for all the people who purchased property for the sole purpose of moving away from the big city only to discover TDS is an inferior internet service. TDS advertises they have fast speed. They send you emails bragging on their customer service and high speed internet. The true sadness is no one can check service prior to purchasing a house. Once they move here, they’re stuck. They’ve sunk their savings and profits from the sale of another home into property with inferior service. Some have even taken advice from others (me) and upgraded their routers at enormous expense only to have no real increased speed. I comprehend that Fannin and surrounding contiguous counties have experienced increased population, but TDS has made it very clear they have no intention of satisfying this growth. The county commissioners need to be involved along with the Governor’s office to pressure internet providers to upgrade as populations increase or allow for companies to enter the area who are willing to provide the service necessary to meet the needs of the residents.

We live on Hemptown Heights in Morganton. We have TDS and have frequent internet drops as well as very slow connection. We pay for the highest speed they offer and rarely achieve half that with downloads.

Internet speed was less than dial up speed. Landline quality was also aweful.

We stay there multiple times per year and struggle every time with the internet.
We pay for the fastest offered and never receive that.
We also rent our cabin, when we aren’t there. We never receive complaints about anything except the internet and lack of speed and availability from our renters. It has affected our rent ability because of this lack of service.

On Cutcane Road in Mineral Bluff, GA. Still part of the Blue Ridge area and I barely get over 2 mgs down and not even 1 mg for uploading. If I want to upload a video for my vlog, I have to let it upload while no one is home for 3 hours or more and its usually a less than 10 minute clip. My in-laws moved in next door, and since they’ve gotten TDS the performance drops when ever they want to stream something next door. We’re stuck buffering movies or shows. I signed up for high speed internet when we moved here, and when the FCC law came up that anything under 20 mgs is not high speed internet, they started calling what we get “Express Internet” on the bills but still charging what we paid in the city for cable internet.

I have also been told in no uncertain terms by TDS that if I don’t like their service I should cancel it. My speed test readings anre in kb/s not mb/s. It has a direct impact on the business I run out of my home and is not close to what we pay for. We are on Eld Ridge Road.
I can’t even watch videos on facebook. The service is constantly shutting down. Worse internet I have ever experienced.

I pay for 5Mb and rarely get even close to that. It is not uncommon for a speed test at speedtest.tds.net (which TDS requested specifically), to time out. I have recorded dozens of tests over the last many months. I have had many calls from TDS to change my plan, claiming I can save money. I had someone in the know tell me NOT to change my plan which is grandfathered in, because that gives TDS the right to lower my internet service from 5Mb to even 1Mb! If I understood, correctly, that would allow TDS to offer DSL to more customers since they would not be required to meet the 5 I am currently paying for (of course, they don’t do that anyway!). I live off Aska Rd.
TDS speed isn’t what they claim nor advertise. They refuse to upgrade and have poor customer service. The cost is ridiculous considering what you get for it.

We were told it was because of kids playing with remote control cars here. We didn’t have kids in our home. My wife and myself are the only ones in our home. They brought a new router to no avail. Service is no better than before.

TDS interrupts my computer operations on a regular basis asking me to fill out a survey. I have. I have given them the worst marks on the survey. My internet is slow; totally unacceptable and they expect high marks? Afraid not. We need better choice for internet.

Tecnician came out to service our Direct Tv, he has worked for AT&T for years. He said the system in our area is in such bad shape that AT&T had considered buying TDS – but it needed severe updates, – they wouldn’t profit from the purchase. I do wish something could be done

Our service from TDS is much slower than our old dial up service we had in the 90s, yet we pay three times as much per month. Photos don’t load, it’s almost impossible to watch a video, much less a movie from Netflix. We homeschool and the kids used to have a couple classes they took online but we had to cancel those and go with textbooks because the live stream would buffer for hours. Something needs to be done.

We have the option in our part of Morganton and simply didn’t know any better and locked into a 2 year contract, we switched the minute that contract was up and will. Ever ever go back, tech support can’t help you, the service itself is horse and buggy compared to high speed options available today, frankly I don’t know how TDS is still in business except there is no other option for some folks

We are previous ETC customers and were forced to go with TDS when moving to Morganton. The service is less than satisfactory. Even more aggravating is the lack of customer service. It is very apparent that they have no interest in customer service as they have a monopoly and know it. We would return to ETC in a heartbeat if they provided service in our area.

We live off Curtis Switch Road in Mineral Bluff & pay for high speed internet, but rarely, if ever, have the high speed. I spoke to TDS and they said they do not plan to increase service in this area.

We pay for 15 Mbps and consistently receive .7 upload and 2.0-3.0 on download speeds, sometimes less. This is not sufficient to manage any kind of business or streaming from the home, which many of us do.
We frequently cannot watch Netflix movies. I contacted TDS and they stated that they have insufficient service in Morgantown, Lakewood, and Mineral Bluff. I asked if we should be receiving discounted service. They said no. I asked what is being done to improve/enhance service. They said “working on it.” They also said there is no target date for improvement.
Terrible, terrible service in Riverwalk. Thanks Verizon for unlimited. Cancelled TDS after complaining to FCC.

Very slow service, especially in the evening. Have called several times to support and their answer is that the infrastructure in our area is overloaded. A technician came to our property a couple of months ago and said we were lucky that our trunk line wasn’t as bad as a couple of others in the area. He said he thought they may be doing something next year but didn’t have anything more specific. Aska Rd./Big Creek Rd. area south of Blue Ridge.
TDS Telecom charges for high speed and knowingly delivers no speed internet. Not many alternatives in the area and TDS is fully taking advantage of this by their inaction the past year to improve speed.
I have filed two official complaints with the FCC respecting the service we receive from TDS. The company does not intend to upgrade the infrastructure to provide better service and will not allow any competition.

We live on Honey Hill Road off of Squirrel Hunting Road and was told we would get 15MB if within a mile of the equipment. We have 1MB for what the other companies charge in Blairsville and Blue Ridge for 15MB or even 25MB. Cannot use our smart TV’s for streaming in movies or internet hook up to them.. Most of the time we cannot load our IPads because of delays….I see Blue Ridge Mountain Electric has run viber optic cable to my house when they put the electric in when building our home. Not sure when they will be offering internet services? So we pay a high rate for almost none existing internet services. When I went to ETC they told me I was kind of in “no mans land” when it came to the internet… No choices, no competition equals low quality service for a higher price….

This service is supposed to offer up to 5 megabytes speed however we only received 1.5 megabytes per second I have called and complained so many times that they have told me if I call again to report slow speed they will lower me to 1mbps. On one occasion the customer care manager pretty much agreed that we were not on the list for any upgrades to our lines because we were in a rural location and there was no competition. I have never been more dissatisfied with a company
I’ve been a customer since 2005 and the Internet from then till now is still the same slow, disconnecting, interrupt service. I initially paid around $50 or $60 for basic phone, no long distance and today it’s up to $83 for the same slow, crappy Internet. I don’t know how they can raise their rates and not improve service for it.

Had to replace their modems twice and they wanted to charge me for another so I bought my own instead. Weekends are sometimes impossible. We have been in touch with TDS Corporate office, the GA Public Service Commission, and ETC.

TDS is compromising the security of my household. I purchased a Ring video doorbell and had to return it because the internet speed is so slow that I could not get it to work. The every day speed at my house is 0.5Mbs. TDS Telecom charges for high speed but does not deliver. I think dial up service was faster. I live in Riverwalk on the Toccoa in Mineral Bluff. There are no other alternatives to TDS in my subdivision. TDS is well aware of our situation and really doesn’t care. They have no plans to upgrade their systems to deliver the speeds that residents are paying for. I have filed an official complaint against TDS with the FCC but don’t expect anything to change due to lack of competition and/or legislation.
My TDS internet service is terrible!! I’m without service numerous times EVERY day. I’ve reported the problem, replaced modems, and had service technicians at my house numerous times over the past 8 years. Several times I’ve been told that it’s due to high demand. Why do I pay a full amount for my service, when it’s only available part of the time. Wish there was an alternative!
